IPL 3 Preview: MI vs KKR, Mumbai
IPL 2008, Mumbai Indians vs Kolkata Knight Riders at Kolkata. Ishant was breathing fire and he had Jayasuriya dancing in his little spell. Jaya swung at everything; he connected with a few, missed a few but it ended with his off-stump cartwheeling past the wicket keeper.
With the short ball again being exploited as a problem against the middle order, Mumbai could bring in Duminy to replace Jayasuriya who simply isn’t contributing as a batsman. Kieron Pollard too is yet to make an impression with the bat but it’s still early days for both Jayasuriya and Pollard. Rayudu is injured and could be replaced by Dhawan. The bowling options did great against Delhi but only Zaheer managed to impress against Bangalore. Another day like that against KKR could see batsmen like Gayle teeing off.
Supposing KKR plays Gayle, Owais Shah is the guy most likely to sit out. Shane Bond gets wickets, gives away very few and is a surety over Charl Langeveldt. I doubt they’d risk dropping Angelo Mathew with his current form and Brad Hodge ever so those two ought to play.
Manoj Tiwary needs to forget about how many chances he has left and simply play the friggin game . Kolkata missed Laxmi Ratan Shukla’s ability to slog against RR and might bring him in to replace Pujara. Dinda was good though in the last match and if Mathews and Sharma recover quick from their off day on Saturday, KKR could bowl the pants off Mumbai at Brabourne.
Also interesting to watch would be a possible meeting between the two most expensive signings of IPL 3: Shane Bond bowling to Kieron Pollard. Because Pollard bowling to Bond would be worse than Pietersen bowling to Flintoff a la 2008 .
