IPL 3 Preview: DD vs CSK, Delhi

March 19, 2010

The loss of Gambhir early in the match against Mumbai totally derailed Delhi who ended up losing by 99 friggin runs. Their fielding was pathetic and lost them the half chances that the Mumbai batsmen gave them. Chasing 200+ is not gonna be easy but the batsmen did themselves no favors by going for rash shots.

Dilshan got a start against MI and is the main threat in Gambhir’s absence, CSK’s bowling is a bit vulnerable in the face of an early onslaught and should be easy material for him to dispatch if he gets on top right from the start.

The bowling is gonna have a much harder time against Chennai. Maharoof and Sangwan leak runs but thankfully Nannes retains economy even if he doesn’t get early strikes. The spinners especially Ladda got wickets towards the end when MI tried to end with a bang.

Hayden, Badri look good while Vijay and Raina need to spend more time in the middle. Parthiv’s done well in the chances he’s got. DD’s batting looks a lot less imposing with Gambhir out, de Villiers’ poor form being the glaring problem. The middle order helped in the first two matches but with Karthik now having captaincy to focus on, Manhas and Maharoof have to soak up the pressure.

CSK’s bowlers did well against KKR and will need to bowl out of their skin to hold back Sehwag and company. It took brilliant bowling by Jakati, Tyagi and Morkel to restrict DD the last time these two met. Tyagi warmed the bench in the last game and Jakati is nowhere to be seen, they need something special from R Ashwin today to win this match.

Update: Maharoof was dropped & Warner came in, Rajat Bhatia came in for Gambhir while CSK brought in Joginder Sharma in place of Gony.
