IPL 3 Preview: RCB vs RR, Bangalore

March 18, 2010

The city vs state match up catches the two teams at a delicate moment in their 2010 campaign. The Rajasthan Royals are staring at possibly their third straight loss while the Royal Challengers Bangalore lost their first match and then emphatically chased a 200+ score for the loss of 3 wickets in just 19 overs in their second.

RR’s problem with non performing players along with the injuries to their performing ones is a major issue. Ojha, Asnodkar, Jhunjhunwala need to get the runs now that Smith and Mascarenhas are out of the IPL. Even Yusuf may sit out with an injury. Damien Martyn and Morne Morkel should come in tonight and I’m counting on runs from the Australian to prop up the Royals.

Tait, Munaf need to get plug the run leaking and not lose their head every time a batsman goes for them. Warne might have a good time today toying with Pandey, Uthappa and Kohli but might find it harder against Dravid and to an extent, Kallis.

RCB still need their bowling to perform better, Steyn with his economy of 9 was their best bowler and even he couldn’t a early breakthrough against Punjab. Kumble was surprisingly ineffective, expensive and owes his batsmen big time for bailing RCB out.

RCB’s bowling really needs to buck up and compliment it’s batting. Kallis is the man of the moment for them but there’s only so far that he can carry them.

RCB’s troika at the top of Pandey, Kallis and Uthappa charged Punjab’s bowling and managed to unsettle them and will look to do the same against Rajasthan’s relatively inexperienced attack . Eoin Morgan hasn’t had much of a chance till now and he too could do some major damage to RR’s collective bowling figures.
